Ingredients
- 1 medium head of cabbage, finely shredded
- 1/4–1/2 cup chopped onion (optional)
- 12 oz evaporated milk
- 1 cup dry breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup butter, cut into small pieces
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
Instructions
Prepare the Casserole Dish: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 4-quart casserole dish with butter.
Layer the Ingredients: Place the shredded cabbage and chopped onions (if using) into the prepared casserole dish. Spread evenly.
Add Milk and Breadcrumbs: Pour the evaporated milk over the cabbage mixture. Sprinkle the dry breadcrumbs evenly on top.
Dot with Butter: Distribute the butter pieces across the breadcrumb layer. Sprinkle with paprika.
Bake Covered: Cover the casserole dish with a lid or aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
Bake Uncovered: Remove the cover and bake for an additional 30 minutes, or until the breadcrumbs are golden brown and the cabbage is tender.
Serve: Serve hot as a comforting side dish or main course, paired with crusty bread or roasted meats.
