After eating a dish something like this one in a restaurant, I decided to reconstruct it in my kitchen. A few tries later, this is my delicious recipe

Although I haven’t made this dish in ages, it was one of the first I tried when DH and I were dating, and I made dinner for him! For that reason, I’m glad I found this cookbook (Betty Crocker’s New International) to share this sentimental (for us) dish. I remember it being a very tasty dish; it’s not very colorful, but it does have a nice flavor, and when made with light sour cream, isn’t too detrimental to the waistline! It’s described as both Hungarian and Austrian in its origin, “betyar fogas”, and the note says that it’s often accompanied by boiled russet potatoes. I used to serve it with a colorful salad, since a white fish dish and white potatoes was way too bland!
i found this in a booklet from a local supermarket and it was just the thing i had planed for dinner tonight. I adopted it and added some more spices. It is great for potluck, brown bagging and can be frozen. They are high in protein and very tasty. Serve with any kind of your favorite sauce to make them special. For dinner we have a lot of green salad with them and some kind of tomato-based sauce.
The original recipe suggesed using barramundi fillets. Any white fish fillets work well with this recipe
Easy and healthier way to get crispy tasty fish. NOTE: you MUST use the right pan! Please be sure to use a broiler pan so the breading gets hot air on the bottom too and isn’t soggy on the bottom when you go to turn it. OR use a cooling rack on a cookie sheet. Do not use a pan with sides as that will steam the fish, not make it crispy. I have never had the breading fall off using the correct methods. If you don’t care for cornmeal use panko. I have used mostly mild whitefish like catfish or tilapia with great results. Don’t be scared by the number of ingredients—it is mostly spices and herbs. Please adjust the spices, especially salt, to your taste. I have tried to post a balanced blend here but feel free to adjust mild, spicy, lower sodium etc…
