Simple Cornish Hen Ala Crock-Pot

My favorite cooking appliance is the crockpot. It is so versatile and I am finding can be used for anything. I came up with this recipe and just made it last evening very easy. Only 4 ingredients.

Bubble and Squeak – Traditional British Fried Leftovers!

I make this so often, that I thought it was about time I posted the recipe! This amusingly named dish is basically traditional British fried leftovers, and probably enjoyed more than the original vegetables were I think! In fact, I have been known to cook the vegetables in order to make the Bubble and Squeak! The name is thought to originate from the noise it makes whilst cooking in the frying pan – bubbling and squeaking, whatver the reason, this simple dish is delicious and a wonderful way to “fry up” your leftover spuds and greens! I like to season mine with lots of freshly ground black pepper. This is a traditional post-Christmas breakfast dish – but don’t wait until then to make this. Excellent if served as part of an English breakfast with bacon and eggs, or as a light supper dish.

Bulgarian Guvech- Vegetable Casserole With Meat in a Clay Pot –

This dish has a Turkish name and I guess it’s origin is Turkey. However the recipe I am sharing today comes from the Southern part of Bulgaria. It is very healthy meal, full with vitamins and protein. It is usually made with pork or beef, tomatoes, okra, mushrooms, peas, green beans, potatoes, eggplant, onions, herbs, and spices and is often served with “Balkan Mixed Salad”, a combination of roasted eggplant, sweet roasted peppers, garlic, tomatoes. The veggies in this dish can vary depending on the season. Here is my version of it. You will need a large clay bowl with lid.

The Best Bulgarian Moussaka

The difference between the Bulgarian and Greek moussaka is that there are no eggplants in the Bulgarian one.

Bulgarian Potatoes

I have not tried this one yet, but it is in the list here soon. I am ALWAYS looking for a new way to fix potatoes (my DH and DSS don’t eat rice). This looks like it might be a nice change of pace.
