This is a super quick recipe that uses fresh French green beans but would work equally well with frozen. The recipe was printed in Betty Crocker Thansgiving booklet, November 2005. The recipe calls for butter. Please do not sub margarine! The original recipe called for dried marjoram leaves. Not having those I used Penzeys Bouquet Garni with rewarding results.
This is a simple way to prepare your veggies, but it looks really pretty and tastes delicious. The good thing about this technique is you can steam them ahead of time, and then sauté them at the last minute so you have a hot side dish ready with the rest of your meal.
FRIED RICE (NOT!) Thats what my kids call this!! I got this recipe from my friend Bev, and it is a quick and easy side dish, that can be padded out with a few more veggies. I would suggest that you dont “muck around” with this too much the first time you make it, as I have tried to be too clever and it hasnt worked out as well!!! having said that, I have to say I usually add garlic and ginger, and I am sure you have a favorite ingredient you would like to add 🙂
Another stupidly simple side dish made from pantry staples that my family asks for over and over. The savory combination of flavors goes well with many other foods. It can be made with freshly-cooked pasta or with leftover, cooked pasta that has no sauce on it. I’ve included options for some variations to create not-so-simple but extremely tasty side dishes or complete, one-dish meals by adding ingredients you probably have on hand.
