Picnic like the French with a perfectly ripe Camembert, some garlicky sausage and a fresh, crusty baguette – eh voila! No need to go outside for a picnic, if the weather is inclement; enjoy a picnic in your kitchen at the kitchen table, or use the cheese platter as a centrepiece for parties, fêtes, cocktails or social gatherings! Lay a tartan rug on the table and use wicker baskets or a hamper if you wish………..be as “rustique” or as “chic” as you want to be! Great for Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Year, as well as for a summer picnics of course!

Here, the thick sauce is loaded with vegetables and ground beef (or try ground turkey for a leaner version.) The Gruyère cheese is worth the extra cost; it makes all the difference. I like the extra Tabasco, too. I usually double or triple, and freeze the extra for another meal or two later in the week. This dish, a couple of bottles of wine, and some friends… you got yourself a nice, casual dinner party.

From Ruth Van Waerebeek’s “Everybody Eats Well in Belgium.” Use a rich, dark and slightly bitter beer, such as Rodenbach, or a dark Abbey ale. Serve with French fries or boiled potatoes, applesauce, and beer.
From npr.org. Artistic yet easy. For a vegan version substitute agave for the honey. I gave the salad more of a Middle Eastern flavor with the addition of rose water in the dressing. To avoid confusion, the endive called for in this recipe refers to the cone-shaped variety (looks like a bullet or small ear of corn.) I used a head of white endive with the maroon/purple colored outer leaves.
