This quick and easy Gala Apple Crisp will have your home smelling like the best of Autumn! Chopped Gala apples spiced with cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves tossed in vanilla and sugar with a streusel topping.

  • Total Time: 50 minutes

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 medium Gala apples, cored and chopped into thick chunks (I leave the peels on)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon cloves (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla paste or 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

For the Crisp Topping:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Prepare the apples: In a large bowl, toss the chopped apples with lemon juice, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and vanilla extract until the apples are well-coated. Transfer the apples to the prepared baking dish, spreading them out evenly.
  3. Make the crisp topping: In another bowl, mix the flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Pour the melted butter into the mixture and stir until it forms a crumbly texture.
  4. Assemble: Sprinkle the crisp topping evenly over the apples.
  5. Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbly. (35-40 minutes)
  6. Serve: Let the apple crisp cool slightly before serving. It pairs beautifully with vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
