This is a delicious, simple pasty (pronounced “pass-tea” ) recipe. No gravy is needed, as it makes its own. The crust is sturdy but good. These have no turnips or swedes; you can add them if you like. My husband hates them, so I leave them out. Prep time is estimated, as I’ve never paid attention to how long it takes. Note: if measuring the flour by volume rather than weight, be sure to stir it first, or you will end up with too much flour, and thus a tough, dry crust.
We could buy these at a local bakery where I was growing up. I loved them and would often detour by the bakery after school to get one.
Posted for ZWT6. Untried by me at the time of posting but I do mean to try this as it sounds like something everyone would enjoy. Found on the web and based on their intro they say it is best to bake these to the point where they are still a bit gooey for best flavors. Hope you enjoy! Great For: Nutritious quick snacks straight from the store cupboard, comfort food, tasty breakfast bars.
Classic and traditional British Pub Grub! Cooked prawns (shrimps) served in a pint mug with a tangy garlic mayonnaise and a pint of Guinness of course – my idea of heaven! British pub grub is justly famous and this simple dish is also great when served at home. Serve these prawns for family gatherings, or St Patrick’s Day, St George’s Day, St David’s Day, St Andrew’s Day, Australia Day, football, superbowl, darts matches or ANY time you fancy simple, robust food with a pint of ale! I have suggested Guinness but you can serve these prawns with any real ale or your favourite brew. I have spiced the mayonnaise up a tad – if you are not a lover of spicy food, serve these prawns with classic mayonnaise.
Comfort food at its best! A traditional recipe handed down to me by my Mum and her Mum before her……it was my favourite after school tea time meal & is still a firm family favourite even now! I serve mine with lashings of onion gravy and piles of fluffy & buttery mashed potatoes. I used to make mini versions of this recipe for my daughter when she was little – they make great appetizers before a Halloween/Bonfire night supper or a children’s Party! For the mini version, just use a small cake/pie tins or a small muffin tray and split your sausages into quarters OR use cocktail sausages. The following recipe is for 4 people served with potatoes & gravy – the recipe can easily be doubled for more people or if served by itself.
