Fish and Fungi (British Virgin Islands)

This recipe was featured on week 37 of my food blog, “Travel by Stove.” I am attempting to cook one meal from every nation on Earth, and the British Virgin Islands is my 37th stop. Unless otherwise noted, my Travel by Stove recipes are taken from authentic or traditional sources, and this recipe has been posted without any alternations or additions to the ingredients. Personal note: I thought this dish was pretty bland, and probably would not make it again.

British Brunch Bake

This is great for a weekend breakfast. I have leftovers the next day and it tastes great as well. I found this on the internet as ‘exported for Mastercook’. I used cheddar cheese instead of Swiss and omitted the 2 teaspoons of horseradish since we don’t care for it. You could also use cooked bacon instead of the ham and I think next time I may throw in some chopped green peppers and/or onions as well. I hope you give it a try. A fantastic brunch dish or if you have guests staying over.

Bulgarian Mixed Salad

This is a salad for people who love onions and olives. You might want to use Vidalia or Maui onions for a slightly sweeter flavor. The preparation time includes time the onions and cucumber stand. The recipe comes from “The Best of Slavic Cooking” by Alojzije Kapetanovic and Ruzica Kapetanovic.

Bulgarian Rock

Bulgarian Rock very hard nougat. This recipe is an old family recipe I have had for years. I used to make for my DH all the time, and he loved it, as did all who tasted it. I have been asked for the recipe a few times, so I am posting it here for others to view. Bulagarian Rock is well know to many Aussies as it is sold in a well known chocolate shop here, although this not be the exact recipe it is very similar. The serving size is up to how large or small you break the pieces. Beware…Its very nice, but you may get a sore jaw from eating it!!!! Ohh and dont go overboard on the blue food coloring as I did once!! lol
