A simpler and less expensive version of Gratin Dauphinois but a rich filling vegetable dish. Or can be served with a salad for lunch. If you are a garlic lover more cloves of garlic can be used. Cheddar cheese can be used instead of Gruyere cheese. Just put your own flair to this dish.
I know there’s a couple version out there . . . but this is as close to the real thing you can get! No food coloring here! I bake exclusively with instant yeast, however I’ve given directions for both. Original recipe is from Gloria Pitzer (queen of copycat) however I’ve made some minor changes! Time does not include rising time. NOTE: DO NOT USE BLACKSTRAP MOLASSES! I believe a few of the reviewers have used the wrong molasses!
A light & healthy snack or side dish – great if you have an abundance of zucchinis. Omit bacon for a vegetarian option.

This recipe is for kids, it encourages kids to get involved in the kitchen and at the same time to have fun! – The idea of this recipe was from http://pubs.cas.psu.edu/Freepubs/pdfs/ua209.pdf – The kids (Little Miss (DD) and my niece) made this for their grandmother. They had lots of fun counting and watching the jar change when the different ingredients were added. They were quite proud of themselves when they seen the end result. We topped it with melted white chocolate with a little copha and orange food dye. Suggestion with the recipe is grease the base or use baking paper on the bottom.
