Yungueno (Bolivian Cocktail)

Adapted from BoliviaWeb and Time/Life Foods of the World. You can add less sugar if you wish. “Yungueno” means “from the Yungas,” which is a forested area on the Eastern slopes of the Andes. I’ve scaled this down to make fewer servings.

Belizean Fu-Fu (Mashed Plantain)

I bought a recipe book by a local women’s group on my recent trip to Belize (Silly Bug & Bittle Recipes) and this one sounds like something I would like. I love plantains and I love mashed sweet potatoes, so I’m guessing I would like this. The original recipe calls for just the plantain but the site requires at least 2 ingredients so I added butter and salt as I have a feeling I’ll add a little of both, but will give it a try plain first and then modify as needed.

Belizean Style Habanero Sauce – Hot Sauce

I have tried many different hot sauces in my life, with different level of heat. My all time favorite is Marie Sharp’s. Nothing can beat the combination of heat and flavor. My wife was born in Belize and she introduced me to Marie Sharp and she gave us a tour of her factory outside Dangriga, Belize. When we visit Belize we always bring a ton of her sauces back. However, it can be hard to find hear in the states at a reasonable price, so I use this recipe. It is close enough to hers to satisfy the craving. I like to add some papaya to change it up a little. I have even added a little whiskey to it before. Tasted great.

Cream of Endive Soup

This sounds easy and wonderful. I have not tried it yet, but I will keep my eyes open for some endive next time I go to the market.

Belgian Hot Chocolate

This is adapted from a recipe by David Lebowitz. If you can’t find Belgian chocolate use another type, either way it should be high quality. I love Callebaut when I can find it , and rumor has it that Trader Joe’s Pound Plus bars are made by them, they are my back up bar for baking.
