This recipe for Polynesian Coleslaw brings together 3 tablespoons creamy peanut butter, 2 tablespoons vinegar or 2 tablespoons rice wine vinegar (preferred), 2 tablespoons soy sauce in a practical dish for home cooking. It takes about 20 min to prepare and cook. It makes approximately 8 servings.
Poke. Most people on the islands pronounce it Pokey (like Gumby’s red pal) but it’s pronounced Poke (rhymes with Okay). Otherwise it would be spelled Poki in Hawaiian. Anyway, it’s usually made with ahi (the Hawaiian word for yellowfin tuna), basically it’s a raw fish salad, usually flavored with soy sauce, sesame oil, kukui nut, and seaweed.
This is a recipe I found on Taste of Home site that I modified to add another veggie and some seasoning. This salad is more on the sweet side versus being a tangy vinegar type of dressing.
Prepare Banana Dressing about 2 hours in advance and refrigerate. A very pretty presentation that can be served as a side salad, light lunch, or snack. Feel free to sub fruits if one listed is not available or not to your liking.
A recipe I found on Hawaiinrecipes.org while searching for recipes in the Pacific Islands for ZWT Event. This describes 2 ways to cook, in the oven or on the BBQ. It doesn’t add vegetables, but feel free to add vegetables of choice if making it into kabobs. Prep time doesn’t include the time for marinating and cook time is for the BBQ.
