This is a recipe I have not tried yet but I found it in an old book about traditional Bulgarian cooking and it sounded great. I decided to share it so here it is. If you happen to try it, please share how it came out and what kind of cheese you used. By the way, I’m guessing at preparation and cooking times.

This recipe is from a clipping out of an old magazine and came from an unnamed restaurant in Sofia, Bulgaria. Sarma is similar to Turkish dolma since this type of food dates from the days of the Ottoman Empire.

My Uncle Bill was the best cook ever! Well, that’s what I though while growing up anyways. He used to make what HE called a “Bulgarian stew”, and being he was from Bulgaria maybe it truly was. One thing it is for sure is delicious. This is perfect for a cold day and goes great with baked potatoes and his “Bulgarian Salad”. Also, make sure you have some fresh Italian or French bread to sop up the juice in the bottom of the bowl…MMMMM good!
