This recipe was on the side of a Whitworth’s Brand Ground Rice packet. I’ve hunted for ages to try and find the old recipe I used to have when I was small and this looks like it. I’ve not tried it yet (will probably do the microwave version (also on the packet) which I’m adding next). Should be very nice. My mum used to add a few drops of vanilla essence, a ‘knob’ (a bit cut off the corner of a slab…) of butter and an egg white (possibly the whole egg, – can’t remember :). She also used to add a little nutmeg and a little cinnamon and mix them in before putting in the oven dish to bake.
If you are a fan of Hobnobs, the yummy english biscuit sold in the distinctive roll package, you will love this!
Posted for ZWT6 – Great Britain Region. These are a traditional spice biscuit (known in the US as a cookie) that is served during holidays and in bakeries throughout Britain. If you don’t have all the individual containers of spices – you may use a pumpkin pie spice mix or a combination of cinnamon and nutmeg.
I couldn’t find a recipe for British shortbread surprisingly enough. Posted for ZWT6. I am totally guessing on the servings!
This is an awesome no-bake chocolate cheesecake that is quick to whip up and then just needs 3h to chill. It’s designed to be made with sweet dark English chocolate (e.g. Bournville), rather than really ‘good’ 75% brands, or US chocolate so may not work so well with American brands, and it needs quark, which I know is pretty hard to get outside of Europe, so no promises if you end up making it with substitutes! It is well worth waiting the full time for the cake to set as the flavour is so much better when it’s stiff. This was planned to serve 10, but we cut it into 12 and it still took us forever to eat because it’s so rich!
