Yummy little snack for little kids or big kids. Alternatively, you can use either two slices of the same bread (either two white bread or two wholemeal bread) it’s just to make it look pretty and healthy for kids. The pinwheel style is difficult to do without making a mess so if you don’t like a mess or a challenge. You can use two more slice of bread and place them on the top, this will then be a serving size for two. Please be careful with nuts, we don’t give Little Miss (DD) nuts because her cousin has a severe nut allergy.
This is one of several recipes in the October 2005 issue of the Australian magazine ‘Delicious’ in an article featuring food that children will find delicious and which is therefore ideal for serving at children’s parties. I have also posted Recipe #139946. And if you’re looking for other tasty variations on sausage rolls, many of which will also appeal to children, you may like to try my Recipe #169225, Recipe #333506, Recipe #342256 or Recipe #159722.
This recipe is for kids, it encourages kids to get involved in the kitchen and at the same time to have fun! – The idea of this recipe was from http://pubs.cas.psu.edu/Freepubs/pdfs/ua209.pdf – The kids (Little Miss (DD) and my niece) made this for their grandmother. They had lots of fun counting and watching the jar change when the different ingredients were added. They were quite proud of themselves when they seen the end result. We topped it with melted white chocolate with a little copha and orange food dye. Suggestion with the recipe is grease the base or use baking paper on the bottom.
This treat is popular at children’s parties here in Australia. (Servings and Yield depend on how many slices of bread you use.)
