A tried and true recipe for buttery, chewy, delicious Pecan Squares with a hint of cinnamon makes a delightful treat for a chilly day!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb (2 sticks) of butter
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1 egg (yolk and white separated – both will be used)
  • 1 3/4 cup of sifted flour
  • 1/2 lb of pecans, cut lengthwise into thirds or chopped nuts

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350F
  2. Cream together butter and sugar until mixture is light and fluffy.
  3. Add the cinnamon and egg yolk, mix well.
  4. Add flour gradually, mixing only until smooth.
  5. Spread the dough smoothly into an 8×12 inch shallow pan.
  6. Brush with beaten egg white
  7. Sprinkle pecans, pressing them gently into the top of the dough.
  8. Bake at 350F for 20-35 minutes or until done.
  9. When almost cool, cut into squares or bars.
