- Total Time: 20 hours 10 minutes
Ingredients
Units
Scale
- 4 pounds of pear(s), mixed variety
- 2 tablespoons of cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons of vanilla extract
Instructions
-
Prepare the pearsWash the pears thoroughly. Do not peel them, as the natural pectin in the skins will aid in thickening the butter.
-
Core the pears and cut them into chunks.
-
Place the pear chunks into a 6-quart Crock Pot.
-
Sprinkle the cinnamon and vanilla extract over the pears.
-
CookSet the Crock Pot to low heat. If the lid doesn’t fit tightly initially, don’t worry, it will settle as it cooks.
-
Allow the mixture to cook for 18 to 24 hours. The longer it cooks, the darker it will become. If you prefer a lighter color or taste, you can check it after 12 hours.
-
Once cooked to your desired consistency and color, remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
-
BlendBlend the mixture until smooth using an immersion blender or transfer to a blender in batches.
-
CanPour the pear butter into sterilized jars, leaving some headspace at the top.
-
Seal the jars according to proper canning procedures or store in the refrigerator for immediate use.
