This aptly named and versatile vintage delight Nutmeg Feather Cake is indeed as light as a feather and easy to make. Top with your favorite frosting or slice and serve with fruit and whipped cream.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/4 cup of margarine
  • 1/4 cup of shortening
  • 1 1/2 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 cups of flour
  • 2 teaspoons of nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda)
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 cup of buttermilk

Instructions

  • Preheat
    Preheat oven 350°F (177°C). Grease and flour 9×13 baking pan.
  • Cream butter and shortening together.
  • Add sugar and cream until fluffy
  • Add vanilla
  • Add eggs one at a time beating well after each one until light and fluffy.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together dry ingredients until well combined.
  • Mix together dry and wet mixtures gradually, alternating with milk.
  • Bake
    Bake for 40 minutes or until done.
