Mrs. Truman’s Ozark Pudding: A cherished vintage recipe blending apples, nuts, and spices, offering a taste of traditional Ozark comfort in every bite.

Ingredients

  • 1 large egg
  • 3/4 cup of granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of flour
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons of baking powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 cup of chopped nuts
  • 1/2 cup of chopped apple
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 dash of rum

Instructions

  1. Preheat
    Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C) and butter the pie pan.
  2. Beat
    Beat egg and sugar for considerable time, until very smooth.
  3. whisk
    Whisk together dry ingredients until well combined.
  4. Mix
    Stir dry ingredients into the egg and sugar mix until well combined.
  5. Stir in apples and vanilla.
  6. Bake
    Bake in the buttered pie pan for 35 minutes.
  7. Serve
    Serve with whipped cream or ice cream.

Notes

A little rum adds to the pudding flavor but it is not necessary.
