  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 1/2 cups sour milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

  2. Mix flour, sugar, & salt. Cut in shortening. Save 1/3 cup of the crumbs for topping.

  3. Put the rest of the ingredients in a mixing bowl and beat well.

  4. Bake in square or rectangular baking pan for about 40 minutes or until top is golden brown (can take a little longer or shorter depending on the pan used and if you add berries). Could also use toothpick trick: insert toothpick into cake and if it comes out clean the cake is ready.
