Nottingham Pudding….apple and Custard (British)

this is a recipe from Leeds England, when I make this the custard part turns out different at times, I think it depends on the juices from the apples used. yes everything sort of comes out of the apple, and goes into the juices which sort of combines with the custard.

Proper British Roast Potatoes

A true British classic handed down from generation to generation, the backbone of Sunday Lunch all over the UK. Can be served with traditional roast meat. It is worth experimenting with the shapes of the potato, e.g. balls, squares, even hedgehogs!

British Fig Rolls – Almost Better Than Shop Bought!

This is a recipe I found many years ago for authentic Fig Rolls, and they are almost better than the shop bought variety, much though I love the commercial ones! Try to roll out the pastry as thinly as possible, other than that, this recipe is a breeze to make. Fig rolls are a much-loved “biscuit” from my childhood days and I make them whenever I can as I now live in France, as we cannot get them here. Fig rolls are great for a mid-morning snack with a cuppa as well as being ideal for school lunchboxes, picnics, gifts and afternoon tea. (I have posted this recipe on Zaar especially for Lalaloula, who asked about a fig roll recipe in the British forum.)

Traditional British Toad-In-The-Hole and Mini Toads Too!

Comfort food at its best! A traditional recipe handed down to me by my Mum and her Mum before her……it was my favourite after school tea time meal & is still a firm family favourite even now! I serve mine with lashings of onion gravy and piles of fluffy & buttery mashed potatoes. I used to make mini versions of this recipe for my daughter when she was little – they make great appetizers before a Halloween/Bonfire night supper or a children’s Party! For the mini version, just use a small cake/pie tins or a small muffin tray and split your sausages into quarters OR use cocktail sausages. The following recipe is for 4 people served with potatoes & gravy – the recipe can easily be doubled for more people or if served by itself.
