Another thing I came up with because I could not find the thing I was looking for. This is a very seasonal cake and it is easy to make, looks beautiful and is quite healthy. You can make it before hand but it will not stay as good as freshly baked. If you make it, you should eat it the same day I guess if you would like to have some whipped cream or ice cream (vanilla) with this. It is very nice to take for a picnic though and I like it when its cooled down, like sometime the following morning, with a good cup of coffee with lots of milk foam and some cinnamon on the top. Excellent for weekends!

Submitted for Zaar World Tour 2005. I LOVE chestnuts. On the streets of New York City during the winter vendors roast them on the street and you can buy warm and fragrant little bags of them to keep your hands warm and tummy full while window shopping. Fond memories of Christmas in New York, but this particular recipe is a Christmas in Austria recipe (from a cookbook of countries along the Danube). You can serve them with crown roast of pork (I wouldn’t, but then I’m a vegetarian). Have not tried this recipe yet.
This is a condiment from Austria that is traditionally served with boiled beef. It is nice with smoked meats as well. If you want to make this milder, add more sour cream/cream.
My 3 friends and I tried a lot of different dishes when travelling in Austria. Our policy was to always order something different – and never the same dish twice. This is a tasty meat and potato stew. I do forego the ‘pastry lid’ as I have a pretty good oven casserole dish and little steam escapes.
