This Brazilian breakfast treat is usually served around Christmastime. Being soaked overnight, it makes for a festive holiday brunch item. Cooking the toast long enough for the outside to get crispy still leaves it with a custard-like interior that melts in the mouth. This recipe comes from Chow, by Aïda Mollenkamp. I haven’t tried this recipe yet, but I may try it with less oil on a griddle, and although a topping is not mentioned in the recipe, I might use chocolate syrup and whipped cream. Pretty rich, but it is holiday fare after all. nt (not tried)
It is a delicious carmel spread from Brazil. I got this from a friend who was an exchange student there, it is the most addicting thing ever, watch out, this is NOT low in fat…quite the contrary :)but soooo worth it.
I have not made this recipe, but after having been to Brazil a few times, and after having found this recipe in the Brazilian Children’s Fund Cookbook (Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center), I had to add this to my recipes. I hope it turns out as good as those I’ve tried in Brazil!
These are very good, low-fat potatoes. You can make your own chaat masala by mixing equal parts cinnamon, mace, cayenne and chili powder.
