Southern Buttermilk Biscuits

These buttermilk biscuits are authentic. This recipe came from my great-great-grandmother, and was handed down to all the women in my family, and we are all Southern. I am the first one to commit the sin of using a food processor (lol) but I find it works very well. I would put these biscuits up against anyone’s – they are perfect in every single way. I hope you all enjoy them.

Scalloped Potatoes

Here’s a great scalloped potato recipe that’s so easy and absolutely delicious. The leftovers are just as good, maybe even better, the next day. This is one of my favorite and most prepared recipes, from my 1971 Florence Junior Welfare League cookbook.

Spicy Mexican Cookies (Chocolate)

If you’re looking for a chocolate cookie with a real kick, look no further. These cookies are a perfect marriage of chocolate and spicy. They are firm, but chewy-melt-in-your-mouth. For comparison, I lean toward “medium” heat when it comes to salsa. This recipe is adapted from an excellent food blog called Baking Bites.

Mexican Wedding Cookies

It just wouldn’t be a holiday without these cookies at my house. These easy and fun to make cookies make great gifts for any occasion. This version of the cookie recipe came from Good Housekeeping.

Galletas Elena (Mexican Cookies)

This came from Elena Zelayeta’s Elena’s Secrets of Mexican Cooking. She claims, though, that she is not the Elena of the title, but that this is a popular cookie in Mexico. Kids like the nonpareils
