A great way to use up holiday ham leftovers! This 1963 recipe uses ham and noodles topped with cheesy white sauce and crunchy bread crumbs.

  • Total Time: 1 hour 35 minutes

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 lbs of course ground ham roast (not pressed/processed)
  • 1 12 oz package of egg noodles

White Sauce

  • 1 pound of shredded or cubed cheddar cheese
  • 1 quart of milk
  • 1/2 cup of butter
  • pepper (no salt)
  • 2 tablespoons of mustard
  • 1 teaspoon of horseradish
  • 1/2 cup of flour
  • bread, buttered and crumbed for topping

Instructions

  • Preheat
    Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C)
  • Prepare the noodles
    Cook according to instructions
  • Layer
    Layer noodles and ham in a greased baking pan.
  • Make the white sauce
    Whisk together all ingredients except for cheese and simmer over low heat. Melt the cheddar cheese into the sauce.
  • Pour the white sauce over the noodles and ham.
  • Sprinkle buttered bread crumbs over the top.
  • Bake
    Bake at 350°F (177°C) for 1 hour.
