Cola Ham

This ham is boiled in cola, then glazed with molasses and quickly baked to create a crackling glaze. The result is an incredibly tender, tasty ham!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 mild cured bone-in ham with skin and fat
  • 1 onion, peeled and cut in half
  • 1 2 liter bottle of cola
  • whole cloves

Glaze:

  • 1 tablespoon of molasses
  • 2 teaspoons of mustard powder
  • 2 tablespoons of brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Place ham and onion in a large pot for boiling. Pour the cola over.
  2. Bring to the boil, reduce to a simmer, put the lid on and cook for around 2 1/2 hours
  3. Remove from heat, take out of the pan and allow to cool.
  4. Remove the skin leaving a layer of fat
  5. Score the fat crisscross with a sharp knife to make a diamond pattern
  6. Place a clove in each diamond
  7. Brush molasses over the scored fat
  8. Pat mustard and brown sugar onto the molasses
  9. Preheat oven to 450F
  10. Move to a foil lined pan and bake for 10 minutes or until glaze is crispy and bubbly.
  11. Remove from oven and allow to cool for 10-15 minutes before serving.
