Instructions

  1. Cream butter and sugar until lightened.

  2. Beat in egg and molasses until smooth.

  3. Whisk in spices, baking soda, and salt.

  4. Gradually mix in flour until a stiff dough forms.

  5. Chill dough 15-20 minutes for easier handling.

  6. Roll out on lightly floured surface to 1/4-inch thickness.

  7. Cut into gingerbread shapes with cookie cutters.

  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 8-10 minutes until edges are set.

  9. Cool on a rack before decorating.
