Ingredients
- 2 lb round steaks, sliced 1/2 inch thick
- 3 slices bacon, chopped
- 1 cup water
- Salt to taste
- Black pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon capers, rinsed (optional)
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (optional)
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour (optional, for thickening)

Instructions
Season beef with salt and pepper.
In a heavy pot, render bacon until crisp; remove and set aside, leaving fat.
Brown beef in bacon fat on all sides in batches; remove and set aside.
Return bacon to pot; sprinkle flour over fat and whisk for 1 minute (optional sub to thicken).
Add water to deglaze, scraping up browned bits.
Return beef to pot; bring to a simmer.
Cover and braise on low heat about 50–60 minutes, until tender.
Stir in capers (if using) and parsley; adjust seasoning.
Serve beef with sauce spooned over the top.
