  • 4 tablespoons butter, softened (1/4 cup)
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon, ground
  • 3 cups soft bread cubes (about 5 slices)
  • 1/2 cup raisins

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

  2. Put butter in small bowl.

  3. Scald milk (heat till just below boiling) and pour over butter, stir to mix well.

  4. Beat eggs.

  5. Gradually stir into milk mixture. Stir in sugar, salt, and cinnamon.

  6. Put bread cubes and raisins in a 1-1/2 quart baking dish; pour in milk mixture. Stir gently to moisten the bread evenly.

  7. Set in a larger pan; add hot water to the outer pan to come halfway up the sides of the baking dish.

  8. Bake 40 to 45 minutes or until a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.

  9. Serve warm or cold.
