This aptly named and versatile vintage delight Nutmeg Feather Cake is indeed as light as a feather and easy to make. Top with your favorite frosting or slice and serve with fruit and whipped cream.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup of margarine
  • 1/4 cup of shortening
  • 1 1/2 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 cups of flour
  • 2 teaspoons of nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda)
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 cup of buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat Preheat oven 350°F (177°C). Grease and flour 9x13 baking pan.

  2. Cream butter and shortening together.

  3. Add sugar and cream until fluffy

  4. Add vanilla

  5. Add eggs one at a time beating well after each one until light and fluffy.

  6. In a separate bowl, whisk together dry ingredients until well combined.

  7. Mix together dry and wet mixtures gradually, alternating with milk.

  8. Bake Bake for 40 minutes or until done.
